Symmetrical Portraits by Julian Wolkenstein

website

Photographer Julian Wolkenstein took the idea of facial asymmetry as an inspiration for his photo series, where he matched the same sides of the person’s face together. By applying this method, he would get two perfectly symmetrical pictures of the same model. Surprisingly, the two photos would turn out considerably different!

Wolkenstein photographed ordinary people whose faces seemed interesting to him, asking his models to show no character or emotions. The portrait series was completed in 2010, and was part of Wolkenstein’s study on facial features, facial proportions and facial symmetry.
